| June 30, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE U.S. Savings Bond Program in Jeopardy Tulsa, OK (June 30, 2003) - As of Oct. 1, 2003, U.S. Savings Bonds, also known as War Bonds, will no longer be available to the public through their present- day outlets. The U.S. Government plans to phase out the marketing department of the Bond program as well as discontinue public service announcements for the program. One family's three-generations of women are campaigning to call a halt to government intent to dissolve the program. The family matriarch, Randi Dale of Tulsa, OK, was the official cover girl for the first war bond issued in July of 1944. The then six-year-old graced the cover of Popular Photography magazine announcing the bond's debut. Daughter Susan Dale, also of Tulsa, tirelessly heads up the drive to continue the Bond program as we know it. "I refuse to compromise its valuable coexistence within the system," says Susan Dale. "The U.S. Savings Bond program has proven that it does work, having helped to generate funds for government and Americans alike." Anastasia, the spunky six-year-old daughter of Susan Dale, completes the trio. The same age as grandmother Randi in the bond debut cover photo, Anastasia now vows to become the newest cover girl for the Patriot Bond. Patriot Bonds, which debuted Dec. 11, 2001, are the newest edition of U.S. War Bonds. Following World War II, U.S. Savings Bonds accounted for 26 percent of the public debt. The bonds bought through the program significantly financed the U.S. struggle for world freedom. The current U.S. Treasury cost model shows that for every $1 billion borrowed via bonds, $17 million is saved when compared with the same amount borrowed in marketable securities. "They [U.S. Savings Bonds] have proven beyond a doubt that they do work. We are making it our mission to ensure that they can continue to work for the U.S. citizens and economy," proclaims Susan Dale.
