Bond Girl here at JCHS

By Vishwa Banker

JCHS is known for having a diverse population but did you know that a member of our little community is a real live Bond Girl? Well, sort of... I never said " Bond, James Bond".

Mrs. Dale, a freshmen English and Life Skills teacher, started her professional careers as a child model.

Her mother took her into an agency one day and the photographers loved the way she responded to the camera and fellow models. Her brother also got into the act, posing with her in several photos for products such as Beechnut baby food.

During WWII, she achieved national fame as the star of war bond ads. SHe was the first model to get government permission to use a war bond as a backdrop and the youngest "Bond Girls" ever.

For those of you who don't know what a war bond is, it's a wasy for consumers to make a safe investment and support their government.

The government puts money raised form bonds into the General Fund, which supports the military, food banks, and nursing homes.

Once her child modeling days ended, Mre. Dale thought her days of fame were over.

However, as 1994 rolled around, it marked the 58th anniversary of her historic bond ad.

Popular Photography Magazine marked the occasion by asking Mrs. Dale to model for a commemorative issue.

Since then, she's become more active in raising public interest and general patriotism after the tragedies of 9/11.

She was involved in the first rally for the newly issued Patriot Bond in Tulsa, where she was honored to meet the last surviving Navago code talker and a Vietnam veteran, who gave her granddaughter his pilot's wings.

The rally made news nationwide and Mrs. Dale revived letters of appreciation and admiration from governors, senators, and President Bush.
